Romania’s human capital is at half the performance of the developed countries
In 2020 the annual productivity per employee is at an average of 55 thousand EUR for companies over 2 employees, while the microenterprises (0-1 employees) having an average productivity of 110 thousand EUR per employee, almost double than the industry average.

The number of microenterprises and small companies is the most dynamic, and it has grown with almost 78% from 2015 to 2021.
Women are more interested than men to complete their formal education at MA and PhD levels.
Most of the graduates in ICT hold a BA diploma. Gender gap persisted across time with only 25% females employed, and we estimate it will continue to widen in the future.

About the study
Methodology
This report was developed by the Academy of Economic Studies for the Romanian Employers’ Association of Software and IT Services (ANIS) and funded by ANIS.
The data on market volumes were provided by the National Institute of Statistics in Romania and the National Agency of Fiscal Administration. The tables and graphs presented in this report are based on the authors’ computations.
To assess the innovativeness of the industry, as well as the factors that can support or hinder the development of IT centres, a questionnaire was developed and applied to a sample of 1.042 Romanian companies in the IT sector, ensuring a confidence level of 95% with a maximum permissible error of 3%. The companies responded to the questionnaire between June and July 2024
